Services

General

Our ophthalmological team examines and treats according to the guidelines of the FMH and the Swiss Ophthalmological Society (SOG). They are committed to regular further training at congresses (SOG, DOG, AAD, etc.) and to self-study of specialist literature, also in accordance with the guidelines of the SOG.

Eye test and spectacle fitting

Objective / subjective refraction for the diagnosis of refractive errors:

• Nearsightedness (myopia)
• Farsightedness (hyperopia)
• astigmatism (astigmatism)
• presbyopia (long-sightedness)
• Amblyopia (amblyopia)
• Eye diseases (ophthalmology)

Fitting of glasses and contact lenses

eye test for car-permis, boat-permis, flight-permis

Early detection of eye diseases

Diagnosis and early detection of diseases:

• Conjunctiva (e.g., wing fur)
• Cornea (e.g. dry eye, keratoconus)
• iris (e.g. uveitis)
• Optic nerve (e.g. neuropathies, inflammations)
• Retina (e.g. holes, retinal detachment)

Emphasis is placed on the diagnosis and therapy of:

• cataract (cataract) - biometry & outpatient surgery
• Glaucoma - measurement of intraocular pressure, visual field examination, corneal thickness measurement, OCT
• age-related macular degeneration (dry/wet AMD) - OCT, Lucentis therapy

Diagnosis and treatment of internal diseases in close interdisciplinary cooperation with general practitioners, internists, pediatricians, otolaryngologists and dermatologists:

• e.g. high blood pressure (hypertensive retinopathy)
• diabetes mellitus type I & II (diabetic retinopathy)
• rheumatic diseases (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis)

Conservative therapy

• spectacle fitting
• contact lens fitting
• medicamentous therapy

surgery

• Cataract - phacoemulsification
• Glaucoma - trabeculectomy
• Retina - vitrectomy, peeling, operations for retinal detachment
• eyelids - ectropion, entropion, small tumors, hailstones
• conjunctiva - ectropion, small tumors
• cornea - foreign bodies, calcifications

Laser

• Glaucoma - YAG laser iridotomy (LIT) - Argon laser trabeculotomy (ALT)
• After-cataract after cataract surgery - YAG laser capsulotomy
• Diabetic retinopathy - Argon laser of the retina
• Venous occlusions - Argon laser of the retina
• Pre/post examinations for refractive laser treatment (LASIK)

Pediatrics

A vision school (orthoptics) for the diagnosis and treatment of amblyopia and strabismus is under construction.

Emergencies

Daily appointments for emergencies are kept free in our agenda.

We ask for a short telephonic registration during the consultation hours.

For emergencies outside of office hours, please contact the Eye Clinic of the University Hospital Insel, Bern.

Location

The Eye Center is located on the first floor of the Belp Hospital and Retirement Home.

Arrival by public transport

You can reach the hospital and nursing home Belp comfortably with the train lines S3 (Biel-Belp) and S33 (Bern-Thun). Coming out of the station building, turn left and cross the level crossing. Follow the signs "Spital und Altersheim" to the elevator, which will take you directly up to the hospital.

Arrival by car

Take the A6 freeway, exit Rubigen/Belp, along Viehweidstrasse until you reach Belp. Then follow the signs "Spital".

Parking spaces

In front of the main entrance of the hospital, a certain number of parking spaces are available for visitors for a fee.
